September 19,
2008, Northvale, NJ - Jamis Bicycles announces today new developments and continued investment
in the Triathlon market. For 2009, the company's 30th anniversary,
Jamis refines its revolutionary Xenith T-Series platform, already
one of the industry's most aerodynamic designs, with new aero-profiling
of the main tubes that makes the frame even more invisible to the
wind. Jamis will also be delivering a new XS size for adults 5’ 5”
and below that rolls on 650c wheels for an even greater aerodynamic
advantage.
"The results from our first tests of the Xenith T2 at the San
Diego Low Speed Wind Tunnel were astonishing," says Greg Webber,
Jamis' VP of product development. "Not only were we as aerodynamic
at most of the yawl angles as the industry's former most aerodynamic
bike, we absolutely blew them away straight on. Clearly, our fork
offers a huge aerodynamic advantage." Jamis' patent pending
Windshield® fork, introduced last year, shrouds the front brake behind
and within the fork. To prove the point, Jamis designers took off
the Windshield® fork and attached the industry's leading aftermarket
aero fork with a brake caliper in front, then started up the wind
tunnel. The results befuddled even the SDLSWT engineers: a 10% increase
in drag. They insisted the test be run yet again, no extra cost,
concerned there had been a calibration mistake. On the second test,
the results were the same: the Jamis Windshield® fork does offer
a 10% aerodynamic advantage, which translates as a seven watt power
increase for the rider.
Jamis outfitted the full carbon Xenith T2 and T1 with the Windshield
fork last year and will be doing so again in 2009, but they will
also be offering the fork on other models in '09 as well. "In
one of the most significant technology trickle downs from our '08
line to '09, we now offer the revolutionary Xenith T-Series Windshield®
fork on our aluminum/carbon Trilogy." The Trilogy will also
feature chainstay-positioned rear brake calipers and just as on the
full carbon Xenith T-Series bikes. Webber convincingly states, "Having
these features on the $2400 Trilogy makes this bike a category killer."
Jamis' $1600 Comet also sees some significant upgrades for 2009,
getting the same proprietary dual-position full carbon aero seatpost
as the rest of the Jamis Tri lineup along with a competitive Shimano
component package, fully adjustable Profile T2 aero bars and Selle
San Marco Ponza Trilon saddle.
"We're going to market with one of, if not the strongest line
of Tri bikes ever in terms of design, performance and value." says
Webber.
